This should be required reading for everyone seeking a Juris Doctorate degree or a peace officer license.

The book tackles an issue that everyone sees, but has a different perspective on. If you believe the narrative of "pure coincidence" regarding mass incarceration, she challenges it with actual court cases, government investigations/findings, and other pieces of proof. If you believe in a terrible deep plot or are just a bit disturbed at what you've gathered watching the news and reading small articles, the book doesn't attempt to confirm your suspicions based on the authors opinion. But where the book stands out is not answering the question of "WHAT", and the author refreshingly does not speculate on "WHY"......instead the book focuses on "HOW", which is vital information for anyone to know regardless of what position you take regarding the judicial system.
I suggest reading this, and then picking up one of the titles from the Howard Zinn, "A Peoples History" series. When you read them in combination you arrive at some interesting perspectives that may counter what you previously held as undisputed truth.

This novel is absolute garbage. Criticizes the our police force that works hard everyday to protect us. I was assigned to read it in one of my college courses and I couldn't keep reading after the introduction. I was so infuriated that they were criticizing those that risk their lives to protect our nation everyday. If you agree with the author of this book than you need to get a real grasp of life. If you commit a criminal act you deserve to be imprisoned. End of story.

Alexander lays out in no uncertain terms the reality behind mass incarceration today. She eviscerates the arguments for the colorblindness of the system and offers a radical revolutionary solution to the cancer that is racial injustice. She foresaw the Black Lives Matter movement, and this book should give that movement direction.

I couldn't finish it. She seems to have had an agenda and twisted things to prove her notion of how the world is, even though she acknowledges at the beginning that her husband disagrees with her.

THIS BOOK IS THE TRUTH, BELIEVE THAT

This book rocked my middle class white world to the core. It is impeccably researched and chilling. It makes a good case that race relations have actually deteriorated dramatically during the past 30 years while we sit around congratulating ourselves for having elected a black President. I'm sad to say, until I read this book, I had no idea what was going on in poor black communities or why they seemed so dysfunctional. This should be a must read for everyone in this country.

This book is well written and rather insightful. The author did a tremendous amount of research.
